Relics, artifacts,<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 mementos, all are linked to some<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 experience of days gone by. The poignant<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 nuances of the everyday don&#8217;t necessarily<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 have a thing associated with them but, as<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 we breathe through these simple<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 experiences, we are most always clothed.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The sometimes mundane history of daily life<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 can be tracked by what we wear, what lays<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 closest to our skin.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Wardrobes can mold to our forms and<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 psyches, becoming an integral support to<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 how we identify ourselves. I am wedded to<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 the eighties, wearing clothes from high<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 school that are over half of my age, thankful<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 that they are back in style (or so I think). I am<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 bonded to this era &#8211; my first kiss, screw, drink,<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 and deep depression. In my closet is a box<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 of eighties&#8217; era pants awaiting a dramatic<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 loss in my waist inches that will doubtful<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 ever happen. With image often being such<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 a priority, some of us collect<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 never-to-be-worn-again clothing that<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 presents who we want to be, how we want<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 to look. These folded or hung fabrics sit<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 there, gawking at us, asking to be taken out<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 of their misery.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Clothing can bear the weight of<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 overwhelming feelings and memories. Half<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 of my wardrobe was once my father&#8217;s. I<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 couldn&#8217;t bear to see these archives<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 disappear after he passed away. For those<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 who place significance on clothes throwing<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 them away can be a painful process. I am<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 guilty of emphasizing symbol over material. I<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 revel in memory and history. How healthy is<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 this? I don&#8217;t know.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Now, in my work, I am excavating the worn<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 and hoarded, cataloguing them, and letting<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 them go. thread borne releases these<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 documents of times past, with no possible<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 return for my heaven bound hamper.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; Threadborne, August, 2002 The Project Room , Saltworks Gallery Artist&#8217;s Statement \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0 Inanimate objects take on power through \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 significant association.
